For this week, our staff at Anderson Fire Protection want to take time to showcase a project on which we are working: on WMATA Station with Potomac Yard Constructions. This is a collaborative effort between Schiavone Construction, Halmar International, and Potomac Yard.
What is the End Goal of the Project?
Anderson Fire Protection is working alongside all of the aforementioned organizations in order to create what will be known as the Potomac Yard Metrorail Station. It is going to run along the Braddock Road Stations and the Ronald Reagan National Airport. The objective is to have this station make it easier for civilians to get to work more effortlessly. There will also be the benefit of keeping traffic congestion down while expanding transit options in order to adapt to the growing community in Alexandria.
How is the Station Being Built?
During this project, there will be more than half a mile of Bulk 6-inch Sch 40 galvanized piping that serves the hose valve stations going along the tracks. In addition to this, we are installing sprinklers in the maintenance building, main station building, and the entrance pavilion.
There are plenty of details that are going into this grand-scale project, such as an intensive 3D Coordination due to the number of electrical conduits, electrical equipment, and other specialty appurtenances required to run the trains. This project also requires cathodic bonding of the sprinkler piping because of the energized third rail.
While this Buy American project has been a challenge at many points, we are sure that it will all be worth it once the project has reached completion. It has been a rewarding project to tackle, and we’ll be pleased when people can finally benefit from everything that it offers.
